A little Facetime with the Author

K.S.  Hello and welcome to the blog. I am very excited to have you here. Why don’t we start off with a small introduction? Tell us a little about yourself.

First I would love to thank Katie for having me on today, it’s great to be here. My name is Zoey Sweete and I am currently the author of The Draven Witch Series and The Draven Dynasty. I have been writing since I was about twelve. I always felt like putting my feeling son paper was easier than saying how I felt. It became therapy for me.

K.S.  Any interesting writing quirks or stories you would like to share with my readers?

I have to have my playlist going when I write. I am an avid rock n roll girl, my hubby calls it my angry music but it helps me focus on certain scenes.

K.S.  When did you realize you wanted to be a writer? What sparked the desire to pen your first novel?

I had always written teenage angst poetry which later lead to a novel I have been working on since I was about fourteen. It’s still sitting, lol, but then the paranormal wave hit and I had all these ideas. Of course I researched for a year or so before I actually wrote Blood Magic but it felt amazing to finally get it out there.

K.S.  What genre do you write?

I started out with paranormal fiction, but have since done a poetry collection, erotica, and some of my current works in progress are psychological thrillers, horror, and a crime family themed novel.

K.S.  What would you say has inspired you most in your writing career? Or, who is your favorite author and why?
My father was my greatest inspiration to write. He always said the paper will never talk back never judge, it is there for you to spill your heart out to.
My favorite authors would be Stephen King and Dani Shapiro. I love Stephen King’s Rose Madder, which hits close to home to me, and I love his style, the way he draws you into the book. Dani Shapiro wrote Playing with Fire and it is the exact opposite of King’s writing. Her writing is very raw and emotional.

K.S.  What does your family think of your writing?

My family is very supportive. My hubby is my biggest fan and my Ma pushes me hard everyday and stays on me. I am lucky to have so many people around me that push me to keep my dreams going.

K.S.  What was one of the most surprising things you learned while creating your book/s?

How much of a bitch I can really be. As my series has grown my main character has gotten darker and its been fun writing her that way.

K.S.  What inspires you?

My daughter. She is the sunshine of my life and gives me the strength everyday to keep going.

K.S. Tell us the story behind the story. What inspired you to write this series?

I had always been a fan of the paranormal and picked up reading it or watching it. And Ijust got this storyline stuck in my head and couldn’t get rid of it. I was quite a party girl back then so most of my male leads are named after La Bare dancers. Draven Angel(at the time was Draven Shadows) inspired the name series name, but each male in those books came from one of them that I was close with. A bit of their personality is there. But I just saw so many paranormal books out there and I wanted something different, something where each book took you deeper into the lead female’s past, and leaving you with a cliffhanger.

K.S. Tell us about these book covers. How do they represent your books? How did you choose the artwork?

These books have been through so many covers but I was lucky enough to stumble across Sam Briggs on deviant art and I absolutely fell in love with his vampires. They fit her better than anything. So between his artwork and Bloodmoon Designs these covers could not better describe what is written inside the pages.

K.S. Where can readers find out more about you and your work?
