That's my mantra.
I'm not giving in. I'm not throwing in the towel. I can do this!
I haven't blogged in a bit. I took some time to give myself a mental break. When that didn't work, I found myself as always, sitting in front of my keyboard typing.
I can't say no to the urge to write.
I love it.
I love creating characters. I love seeing where a story takes me. I am a pantser so I never know until I sit down, where a story wants me to go. That's part of the fun.
I am a writer.
The path to publishing is fraught with so much rejection it can feel crushing, almost overwhelming, like it will never happen.
But you know what...
I still think it's worth it.
Immortalis is still out there. I'm still subbing and looking for representation. And I am still pushing myself to finish the sequel, Hunters & Prey. Which, by the way is coming along quite nicely. I had a nice little chat with my character, Santino and he's decided to play nice in this book. ;p He'd been giving me trouble with my ending, that bad boy!
Just wanted to let you all know I'm still here, hard at work on my novels... and a few short stories as well.
I'll be a bit sporadic on the blog while I finish up this novel, but please don't think I am gone for good. Just giving myself enough space to create.
Question for you. Who out there is going to do NaNoWriMo? (did I spell that right?) I think I might try my hand at it this year.

Hi Katie,
Went to the Rutgers conference yesterday and thought of you. Someone on the panel said, "Make sure your first book published is the best it can be. That often means setting aside your first novel and writing another using everything that you've learned. Then go back and take another look at your first."
Go Katie Go! NaNo sounds like a great idea but think I'm going to focus on my revisions before I start another. Good luck!
Way to go, Katie! I'm not in to the whole NaNo thing. I'm happy working on my current project which is near completion. I think.
Good luck, Katie! I'm doing Nano for the first time this year, too.
You are so worth it. Glad you're back at the keyboard. :) I'm not doing NaNo officially. I don't think my two year old will be accommodating to a 50k word month. But I will be starting a new project, so I will be getting as much done as possible in November.
I'm not Doing NaNo either.... Totally understand how you feel how you feel though, with the challenges of publication. But as you put it, we just can't stop writing. So, best of luck to you... I hear that perseverance pays, or something...
Good luck with all your projects!
Good for you for keep pushing through. I'm taking a break from writing right now so I can edit another manuscript. Have a great weekend!
You spelt it right. And I'm still pondering it. I need to quickly put the last 10k into my current novel, then get a new idea to participate.
Happy Writing!!!
Welcome back!
Might try NaNo......not certain. I have no time and my goal would have to be modest.....but maybe.
Shelley
I'm glad you are still writing. And, yes, I'm planning on doing NaNo, but I've got to finish this project I'm working on first. I've got two weeks. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. :)
I'm doing NaNo. I won't 'win' because my middle grade book won't be 50,000 words, but as long as I finish it, I'll consider myself a 'weiner'!!
Oh - good luck. Not me.
Maybe next year.
For some reason I missed this post! Sorry about that. I just had to look you up because I saw you on facebook and I was thinking, hmmm, haven't read her blog in a while. LOL
Good for you for not giving up! It's hard, that's for sure, but it's the people who persist who end up getting pubbed.
I'm not doing nano.
